This issue is dedicated to those who disrupt so that they may transform education systems, practice, and policies. We share some of their stories with the knowledge that hundreds—perhaps thousands—within our community have their own stories of disrupting to transform.
We hold the challenges and opportunities of our current moment in clear focus as we blaze the path ahead. We are using our rich and deep understanding of teaching and learning at all levels—pre-K through higher education—to make meaningful, lasting improvements in our world.
This issue of Michigan Education provides an opportunity to rediscover some of the many vital contributions to practice, policy, and scholarship made by our community; trace the histories that have led us to this moment; and imagine what will define our next century.
The theme of this issue of Michigan Education is ensuring resilient communities in times of stress and change. In the face of the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and enduring race-based discrimination, educators and systems of education play particularly critical roles in building resilience in the communities they serve.
