Jean Mrachko holds two titles within the SOE: Associate Director of Michigan Alternate Route to Certification (M-ARC) and Accreditation and Continuous Improvement Coordinator for the Educator Preparation Program.
In her role as Associate Director of M-ARC, Jean leads and manages all aspects of instruction in the program. She is engaged in the strategic planning and program design for M-ARC, supervises all staff, and oversees day-to-day operations. She collaborates with external agencies such as the Michigan Department of Education and Teach For America-Detroit, as well as other teams and programs at the SOE. Jean also works directly and actively with program participants, serving as a seminar facilitator and field instructor for world languages candidates and as a portfolio advisor for standard certification candidates.
In addition to her M-ARC work, Jean facilitates the accreditation process that applies to all pathways in the SOE’s Educator Preparation Program. She is the primary liaison to the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), a professional accreditor that sets standards and assesses program quality through external peer review. Beyond the SOE, Jean contributes her expertise as a national site visitor and an annual report reviewer for CAEP. She also serves as the assistant director of the Alternative Route Network in Michigan.
Jean’s work at the SOE combines her passion for teaching with her formal training in educational leadership. She draws on her 16 years of experience as a middle and high school world languages teacher to build students’ understanding of teaching and learning. She leverages her graduate work in educational leadership to inform her work on program design, assessment, and improvement.
Jean holds a bachelor of science in secondary teaching from Northwestern University, a master’s in educational leadership from Castleton University, and a doctorate in educational administration and policy from the University of Michigan. She holds K-12 building-level administrator licensure in Michigan.
