Learning Experience Design

Overview & Requirements
Apply

Learning experience design is an exciting field at the nexus of design, learning theory, and educational technology. In order to prepare learning experience designers capable of designing for online and technology-enhanced learning environments, the University of Michigan Center for Academic Innovation and the School of Education have partnered to offer a graduate certificate program in Learning Experience Design.

This graduate certificate combines academic courses on design, learning theory, and technology-enhanced learning environments at the School of Education with authentic design opportunities at Academic Innovation. Students will develop the professional and academic skills necessary to design technology-enhanced educational experiences in multiple contexts of teaching and learning.

At the core of the program is a deep commitment to advancing equity-focused design by integrating inclusive design approaches and frameworks throughout course discussions and residency work projects.

As the certificate is open to any U-M Rackham graduate student, we welcome students from a variety of backgrounds, including teachers, student affairs professionals, and students interested in how technology can be used to better support learning. Graduates of our program have gone on to pursue a range of career options, including instructional design, training and development roles, and doctoral studies.

The certificate program requires a 12-credit minimum of coursework and 150 hours of residency work at the Center for Academic Innovation.
