Michigan Alternate Route to Certification (M-ARC)

The additional endorsement pathway allows practicing teachers in Southeast Michigan to add endorsement areas to their Michigan standard or professional teaching certificates without leaving the classroom. Participants in this pathway begin teaching under interim certificates in their new content areas immediately upon entrance to the program, and receive ongoing, content-specific training and development from University of Michigan teacher educators for three (3) years before earning their new standard endorsements. Additional information about this program, including a list of supported endorsement areas, is available on the additional endorsement pathway webpage.

The TFA pathway is a state-approved alternative route to teacher certification and is open only to teachers who have already been accepted by Teach For America (TFA) and placed in TFA's Detroit region. This two-year program is required for TFA corps members teaching under interim certification. Corps members have the option to complete additional requirements during a third year of teaching to earn a Michigan standard teaching certificate. Additional information about this program is available on the TFA pathway webpage.
