Tutoring First

Tutoring First emerged as a student-initiated program for Teacher Education candidates eager to gain experience in and make a difference in local high schools. In 2004-2005 a group of six freshmen and sophomores worked with Teachers for Tomorrow juniors and seniors as volunteer tutors in Willow Run High School. The experience was so rewarding that returning students are excited to expand the program and invite undergraduates from a variety of disciplines. Teachers for Tomorrow continues to provide support for the new program, and a grant awarded from the Ginsberg Center for Service Learning has helped establish Tutoring First as a premiere University of Michigan service learning program.
