“Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education.”
Martin Luther King, Jr
HISTORY
The Black Educators of Tomorrow was founded in 2004 at the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor by Desiree Harrison and Sidney Bailey IV.
Before the implementation of this organization, there were only a few educational organizations available to education students at the university, which did not adequately focus on the needs of Black education students.
The Black Educators of Tomorrow is the first and only organization devoted to encouraging young Black collegians at the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor to join and thrive in the dynamic field of education.
PURPOSE
We as concerned educators understand that the success of underprivileged youth, their academic achievement, and the involvement of their entire community in the process of education, are critical.
The Black Educators of Tomorrow was established to:
- Promote excellence in education within the underrepresented communities.
- Promote, foster, and sustain a strong presence of ethnically diverse professionals in the field of Education at the University of Michigan, while providing support and resources for those already in the SOE, those pursuing admittance, and those wanting to invest in the future of Education.
