Lisa Cervantes

Master of Arts in Educational Studies with Elementary Teacher Certification

Field of Study: Master of Arts with Teacher Certification - ELMAC, Language Arts Major

Year in Program: 1st year

Geographic Region: Canton, Michigan

Undergraduate: Plymouth Salem High School, Central Michigan University, (In order to meet the requirements for the ELMAC, I took classes at Eastern Michigan University, Washtenaw Community College and BYU Online)

Prior to UM: Prior to coming to ELMAC I had a 20+ year career in human resources, a majority of which was was spent at Ford Motor Company.

The best part of SOE so far: Becoming a part of the SOE has been a wonderful and fulfilling experience. Although it's quite hard to say what the best part has been, the first thing that comes to mind is the people. I have been impressed from day one by the staff of the SOE. They have been beyond helpful to me, from providing information about the program to continued support throughout. All of my professors have been top notch. They are dedicated to providing students with the best education and instruction in current teaching methods. It is apparent that they love what they do and it shows in the classroom as well as in their continued support of students outside the classroom. Talking about the people of the SOE wouldn't be complete without mentioning my cohort. This wonderful group of people, who I've grown so close to is incredibly helpful and supportive.

After graduation: After graduation, I hope to find a teaching position within one of the local school districts.

Teach me something! Take advantage of using the Brandon Center and its resources - quiet conference rooms, computers, printing services, interactive whiteboard etc. It is a great place to study, get to know fellow faculty and students and to relax between classes. Plus you can get free pop!
