TeachingWorks and Teacher Education plan practice-based workshop for July

TeachingWorks and the SOE teacher education program are co-hosting a three-day practice-based workshop from July 16 to 18. The workshop is for teacher educators interested in learning about and engaging in practice-based teacher education. The sessions will include practice-based teacher education pedagogies enacted live, and it will be relevant to field instructors as well as methods instructors. Example field observations will be of elementary instruction and elementary and middle instructions, but the pedagogies will apply in secondary contexts as well.

In the workshop, participants will be able to observe teacher education field experience in action, through summer learning partnerships offered by Ann Arbor Public Schools and the U-M SOE. They will watch and practice pedagogies that are foundational to these learning experiences, such as rehearsals, reflection, and coaching. Attendees will also learn how high-leverage teaching practices, content knowledge for teaching, and ethical obligations are infused throughout the teacher education program, including methods courses and field work. Registrants will be introduced to the TeachingWorks Resource Library, an online collection of curriculum resources for practice-based teacher education.

Find more information about the workshop on the TeachingWorks website here and on the workshop registration page here.
