Partners in Detroit-based educational collaboration honored for transformative approach

A new preschool-through-college campus in Detroit will welcome the first class of 9th grade students this fall. The new educational model located on the Marygrove College campus is possible because of an ambitious collaboration among organizations in Southeast Michigan.

The partners in this work were honored by Starfish Family Services at its annual Great Hearts Gala, held at Ford Field. President Mark Schlissel was joined by co-honorees from The Kresge Foundation, the Detroit Public Schools Community District, and Marygrove College.

In a video prepared by Starfish Family Services and presented at the gala, School of Education Dean Elizabeth Birr Moje and U-M alumna Wendy Jackson of the Kresge Foundation describe the program that will provide educational opportunities from pre-natal through college, wraparound services, and a community-engaged approach to neighborhood investment.
