Nell Duke speaks out against implementing outdated standards that don’t prepare MI students with skills for college and career success

In a recent op-ed published in the Detroit News, Professor Nell Duke discussed House Bill 4192 which would replace Michigan’s current standards for science, social studies, literacy, and mathematics with standards used in Massachusetts nearly a decade ago. Duke addresses the issues associated with adopting outdated standards, and proposes that Michigan’s standards be “forward-thinking, reflecting knowledge and skills that it takes to be college, career, and citizenship ready today and tomorrow, not yesterday.”
