Michelle Sprouse, a doctoral student in the Joint Program in English and Education, has been named a 2017–2018 research fellow with the Open Education Group.

Sprouse was one of 27 research fellows selected for this honor from a very strong applicant pool. Recipients are part of a fellowship program that lasts for 18 months. With an increasing number of educators and students using open education resources, this fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity to increase the research base on open educational resources.

The Open Education Group (OEG) is operated through the David O. McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University. The OEG is committed to expanding the research base on the cost-savings, outcomes, use and perceptions of open educational resources. They received the 2017 Excellence in Research Award from the international Open Education Consortium. This is the third year of fellowships funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
