Maisie Gholson receives Early Career Publication Award from AERA Special Interest Group on Research in Mathematics Education


Professor Maisie L. Gholson has been selected to receive the 2018 Early Career Publication Award of the Special Interest Group on Research in Mathematics Education (SIG RME) of AERA for her manuscript, “Clean corners and algebra: A critical examination of the constructed invisibility of Black girls and women in mathematics,” published in the Journal of Negro Education.

The SIG RME Early Career Publication Award Selection Committee expressed that they were “very impressed by [the] manuscript and feel that it is immensely deserving of this award.” In particular, the committee was impressed with the quality of the research and writing, as well as the broad and significant impact that Gholson’s manuscript can have on the field of mathematics education.

The award will be presented at the SIG RME Membership Meeting of the AERA Annual Conference in New York on April 13-17.
