Alumnus William J. Behre becomes president of Slippery Rock University

William J. Behre (PhD ’98), was unanimously selected by the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education to serve as the next president of Slippery Rock University. While pursuing his degree at the School of Education, he focused on special education policy while working as a research assistant and instructor.

“Dr. Behre has had an impressive academic career,” said Board of Governors Chairwoman Cynthia D. Shapira. “He will bring a vast array of experience to his new role as president of Slippery Rock. We are confident he will provide the university the kind of leadership necessary to enable it to continue to advance its mission and to ensure student success.”

Behre called Slippery Rock "an extraordinary place" and said he is honored to have been selected to serve as the university’s next president. "I look forward to collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to continue to build upon the excellent work that is already taking place on campus," he said.

Slippery Rock University will celebrate the inauguration of Behre as its 17th president from November 1-17. Slippery Rock has a current enrollment of about 8,900 students. It offers 150 majors and minors at the undergraduate level and more than 40 master’s and three doctoral degree programs.
