The School of Education MicroMasters allows learners to take five courses focused on educational innovation and improvement, with a specific focus on the principles and application of Improvement Science. These courses can be used by practicing teachers, leaders, and reformers to advance their current knowledge and earn a certificate. Those who successfully complete the MicroMasters and are admitted to the School of Education can also be granted advanced standing that will reduce the credit-hour requirements for a master’s degree specializing in such areas as Educational Leadership and Policy, Teaching and Learning, New Media and Literacy, or Urban Pedagogy.

The intertwinement of teaching, research and learning is key to shaping the future of education. Since the establishment of the School of Education in 1921 we have been dedicated to leading the development of educational innovators and to shaping teaching and learning. With the Leading Educational Innovation and Improvement Micromasters we are supporting teachers and school leaders in improving educational practice through a stackable, modular and portable offering that can lead to a certificate, advance their career and accelerate their progress through the master’s program upon admission into the School of Education.
The University of Michigan School of Education is consistently ranked among the best schools in the nation. This MicroMasters leverages insights from our top-ranked master’s programs and world-class faculty with extensive background in research, teaching and outreach to provide expertise and support for preparing future leaders in educational innovation in the US and around the world. Dr. Donald Peurach and Dean Elizabeth Moje have collaborated with a team of leading researchers, innovators and practitioners to develop this program. They bring experience in leadership roles within the School of Education, the American Educational Research Association as well as work with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Ross School of Business Center for Positive Organization, in order to present a framework for improved educational practice.
We are thrilled to to have partnered with the University of Michigan Office of Academic Innovation and edX on the Leading Educational Innovation and Improvement MicroMasters in order to broaden and foster participation in curricular innovation. With this MicroMasters, we enable learners around the world to improve educational practice while continuing to scale up academic excellence, inclusion and innovation.
