City Year National Service Scholars

City Year LogoThe School of Education and City Year are collaborating to bring committed leaders with a high level of maturity, insight, and experience working in diverse setting to the teaching profession. City Year is an education-focused organization founded in 1988 dedicated to helping students and schools succeed. Through this collaboration, launched March 27, 2017, the SOE affirms its commitment to service by providing fee waivers, financial scholarships, and other benefits to eligible City Year community members.

Eligible City Year community members include currently serving corps members, senior corps members, alumni who completed a term of AmeriCorps service, and staff members employed for a least two years. Starting during the 2017-2018 application season, each eligible City Year community member applying receives an application fee waiver. Additionally, members who are admitted and matriculated into the SOE after March 27, 2017 will be eligible for a minimum tuition scholarship of $5,000 for in-state and $10,000 for out-of-state students (up to eight eligible members across the four graduate programs).

In order to participate in this opportunity, members are asked to submit a letter verifying City Year affiliation as part of the application process. Please email with "University of Michigan School of Education: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line and include the site where you served and dates of service in the email. This letter will be sent to the Admissions Office on your behalf.
