Which route to teacher certification is best for you?

A few individuals with unique situations will find the following options desirable.

However, it is important that individuals seeking the options below, contact the Office of Student ServicesThis link opens in a new window in order to fully understand what is involved with obtaining teacher certification in one of the following ways:

Certification only program

Students seeking certification only, known as Special Non-Degree students, generally follow the program requirements of either the undergraduate elementaryThis link opens in a new window or secondaryThis link opens in a new window program.

Second bachelors’ degree program

Students generally begin this program with 90 credits of their initial bachelors’ degree counting toward the second bachelors’ degree. Students generally follow the program requirements of either the undergraduate elementaryThis link opens in a new window or secondaryThis link opens in a new window teacher certification program.

Current graduate student in the School of Education or in another unit on campus

Students seeking certification in conjunction with a master’s degree will generally follow the requirements of the undergraduate elementaryThis link opens in a new window or secondaryThis link opens in a new window program. Whenever possible, however, program requirements will be fulfilled by graduate-level courses.
