Provisional Teaching Certificate
Initial Provisional Certificate
The initial teaching certificate is issued in Michigan upon successful completion of a state approved teacher preparation program and passage of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) exams, including the Professional Readiness Examination (PRE).
- Valid for up to six years
- Expires on June 30 of the given year
- Holder is expected to gain at least three years of successful teaching experience and complete required credits in order to progress to the next level of certification.

Effective September 1, 2013, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) began processing Provisional Certificate renewals. Applications are submitted online through MOECS (Michigan Online Educator Certification System) at http://www.michigan.gov/moecs.
