Professional Teaching Certificate
Progression to Professional Certificate
The Michigan Professional Education Certificate is an advanced teaching license/credential beyond the Provisional Certificate.
- Applicants must already hold a valid or expired Michigan Provisional Certificate.
- Valid for up to five years
- Expires on June 30 of the given year
Effective September 1, 2013, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) began processing Professional Certificate requests. Applications are submitted online through MOECS (Michigan Online Educator Certification System).
Renewal of the Professional Teaching Certificate is required every five years. Effective September 1, 2013, the Michigan Department of Education began processing all teacher certification renewal applications. Applications for certificate renewals are submitted through MOECS (Michigan Online Educator Certification System).
Advanced Professional Education Certificate (available January 1, 2017)
The Advanced Professional Education Certificate is valid for 5 years and recognizes completion of an approved Teacher Leader program or certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, as well as effective/highly effective annual evaluation ratings.
